My grandmother gave me three H&R pistols. I'd like get some information about them. They all appear to be really old. One is .22 caliber and it is the only one that has the caliber marked on it. The other two are similar looking but are different calibers. The nickel plated pistol is a 6 shot, serial number 111 and appears to be a .32 while the other one is 5 shot, serial number G40354 and appears to be a .38. The .22 has Harrington & Richardson Arms Company Worcester MASS. USA Pat. Oct 8, 1895 on top of the barrel. The 6 shot has Harrington & Richardson Arms CO Worcester MASS USA PAT'D Oct 4 '87. The oldest looking gun has had the sight modified and the only thing I can make out on top of the barrel is Fitchburg MASS USA Aug 25 96 Pats Pending.

Well, two of them look to be .32 S&W top break revolvers with the nickel one being hammerless. I'm guessing that the one with the most rust on the barrel is the one you think is the .22? If one of them is a .38 then the caliber should be stamped on it. I'll call them 32.s for the moment.
Both the .32's look to be in reasonably decent condition as candidates for restoration. A good cleaning would reveal a lot more. I can't make out all the markings in the photos though one says it was made in Fitchburg and the other in Worcester. There should be a caliber stamp on each of the pistols. Some of the guys here can help date them with the serial numbers. If they were all made around the 1930's then they will shoot smokeless ammo and you can get 32 S&W cartridges easily enough - I just bought a box. As for value, they don't have a lot of value. The 32's go at auction usually for around $50-75. The .22 I can't give you an opinion on without more pics of it. Last edited by WHSmithIV; 09-02-2012 at 06:32 PM.. |

The one with Fitchburg address (left gun bottom pic, sn G40354?) is a black powder Iver Johnson made in 1902 that has had barrel cut off and another sight installed.
I have no H&R serial no. info. Last edited by hrf; 09-02-2012 at 06:56 PM.. Reason: typo |
