Here's a 1957 gun, mint/unfired in the box with paperwork. Airing out the safe a bit.

Fond Memories. I carried a Colt 4" .38 for years. Took top shot in the Acadamy with it, and stayed in the top ten shots on the Department for years with one. Then we went to S&Ws and then to Semi autos. Always had a soft spot for that old colt though.

Beautiful. Nothing beats a Colt.

DAMN, I'm in love! I am a HUGE fan of the "old .41 frame" colts, like the OP, the Trooper, the Python, and the Lawman. And as for fit and finish, and smoothness of action, the OP's, and the OMT and OMM's (Officers Models) which are simply adjustable sight OP's, for the most part, are the smoothest of all. The action polish and fit of the earlier (pre-"Mark") .41 frames is astounding. I would have a HELL of a time keeping myself from FIRING this "safe queen" providing it IS currently unfired.
