Pet loads for S&W 625 - The Firearms Forum

I got a S&W 625jm a few months back, but I haven't found a really special load for it. It does well with just about everything I throw at it except 200grn berrys, they seem to be tumbling at 25yrds the holes in the paper are torn sideways very odd. anyway I haven't tried any lead rounds in it so I thought I would see what the experts had come up with for it.

I had a smith 625-4 in .45ACP. I loaded it with 250 gr cast RNFP and 4.6 gr AA#2. Was a good shootn load.

After doing some searching on the web there seems to be a problem with soft bullets tumbling in a 625. there saying the rifling isn't as sharp as the old one's and bullet jump.

I didnt have a problem with it. I was shooting 250 gr cast RNFP sized .452" intended for the .45LC and loaded in .45 auto rim brass. The 4.6 gr AA#2 made 750 fps from a 5" barrel and would shoot 1 holers at 25 yds.

Granted these were hardcast, prolly 18 BHN or better. And they were bevel base. But they still shot fine and didnt lead the bore. or tumble.

I'll have to try them JLA do you know what primers you used? still not sure why the 200grn berrys are tumbling. I here tell they are swagged lead with a very thin copper coating and they are sized 451", maybe that's why. I have some 230grn LRN and some 200grn LSWC's that are 452" and hard cast, I'll see if they have any tumbling problems.

either CCI 350s or WLP, that load was relatively light (think it was middle of the road) they are the only 2 brands I use. I use them indescriminantly in my pistol loads, unless its a purpose developed hunting load at near max pressure. then I am a little more discriminant about the primer used.

Just tried some 230grn LRN from Magnus and didn't have any tumbling problems. So far my 625jm likes speer 185grn JSWC with 5.6grns of W231 cci-300 primer, shoots like a K38 with 148grn HBWC in it. By the way just put a reduced power wolff spring kit in it and it started light striking the primers so I put a std power wolff hammer spring and a 13lb rebound spring. no more light strikes and the DA is 6-7lbs butter smooth single maybe 1lb.

good deal. My 586 DCM has a 15 oz single action trigger and a 6-7 pound DA trigger. Its a 6" silhouette model with front and rear adjustable sights. I love me a good shootn smith.
