Ok My local range only allows 1 round at a time at the "large-bore" range.
My AR just isn't any fun with one round at a time. Currently have a 30-06 but want something else... Idealy it would be... Cheap to feed - that's why I was thinking .223 - No Pistol calibers Reasonable recoil - my girlfriend wont shoot the 30-06. Reasonably priced bolt action rifle - under $500. Accurate. Also would like it to have Iron sights - still like Irons the best. But may scope it in the future. I shoot off hand never with a rest Any suggestions? Switching ranges is not an option right now.

If it is for the range, I would stick with .223. It will be MUCH cheaper to shoot than anything else. I am partial to Rugers for their quality, but I think you can safely get a Rem 700, Browning A-bolt, Savage 110, etc. and be all set.

Just looked up the price on a Savage 110 - Too much $
Tikka - no iron sights? I need the price to be under $500 So at this point it's definitly a .223 Bolt action with Iron sights - UNDER $500 Last edited by nynomad; 12-06-2011 at 09:52 AM.. |

That Savage looks like a winner. Thanks Airdale! Any one have/try the Savage 11 Hunter? Are they happy with it?
Still open for more suggestions. Last edited by nynomad; 12-06-2011 at 10:39 AM.. |

For that price I don't think you can beat a savage with a big ugly stick.

The Savage offers MOA out of the box as well! I don't think you will be dissatisfied.

You could buy a rifle drilled and tapped with no sights and mount a red dot.
Just another way to go. |

True - think I want the iron sights. If I can get them...
On the Savage website doesn't look like the 11 series have iron sights. Could just be the "stock" photo at Bud's is wrong. |

I would call Buds and find out. Could be a model no longer made.
The model on the Savage site is 11/111FNS (no sight?) The model# on Buds is 11/11F Worth a call me thinks. |

I would be ordering thru a LGS. Prices usually are as good as Bud's.
I'll check with my LGS and see what they say. Thanks again. |

Im getting a Model 25 .223 Savage with laminated stock and blue barrel but no sights new out of the box from bass pro for $600, I would spend the extra $100 but then that wont work for you. GOOD LUCK!

Cheap to feed, reasonably priced, accurate and iron sights. I have your solution: buy a Mosin Nagant and figure 3 out of 4 ain't bad.
The girlfriend may come around. |

Why not simply learn to SHOOT your AR? Mine ONLY shoots one at a time, because it ALWAYS hits with every single carefully aimed round. If you're "bump firing" your AR, you're only destroying your barrel, and hitting NOTHING.

No I can only load 1 round at a time. So it's put 1 round in the mag - fire - take mag out - put another round in mag - load mag etc...gets old fast.

Uhh....make life easier on yourself, buy a sled or a single shot follower, you need not remove the mag each shot.
