Default Any FFLs here that can answer for me?

Hi, I live in Illinois. I wish to purchase a handgun from another resident in Wisconsin. By federal regulation, I need to purchase the gun via an Illinois FFL.

My question is, can I buy it with bill of sale/transfer of ownership in Wisconsin, pay for it, etc, and then take it to an Illinois FFL for processing or does the seller HAVE to ship it to an FFL in IL first?

No. The seller will have to ship the pistol to an Ill FFL dealer. You fill fill out the paperwork there.

I believe they will have to take it to an FFL. However you might want to have the guy selling it check with the laws in his state.

He could ship it to an Illinois FFL by UPS or FedEx--NOT the US Postal Service--or (if he's close to the state line) he could actually deliver it to one himself.

I believe that since it is not a handgun, he can ship it himself to an FFL. If it was a handgun it has to go from FFL to FFL.
