Default Trapdoor extractor/ejector

Does anyone have any idea of the right way to install the spring and rod that powers the extractor/ejector cam on a Trapdoor? Seems like it ought to be a simple job. put the spring and the rod in the hole meant for them, and then replace the trapdoor and the cam....well, it's isn't going that easily! I figure there is a simple way to do it and I'm to dense to see it. Appreciate the help.
