I don't know, Terry. To me, it sounds like "made up holiday, like Kwanza, so them poor dumb Jews will have something to celebrate". Not a real holiday, like Christmas.

Don't know how the rest of the world feels, but calling Chanukah "politically correct" pisses me off.

Folks ....
Please keep in mind that I'm an agnostic .... I enjoy most of the holidays , just for themselves.
It was not my intention to P.O. anyone with my attempt at humor , and, I, truly, hope you'll enjoy the various holidays .

AND

You do realize that the Jewish religion has been around much longer than the Christian's.

I'm fully aware of that. That's one of the reasons that your post pissed me off. It's not a "politically correct" holiday. It's a sacred occasion that's been celebrated longer than your Christianity has been in existence.

I've got a friend. He'd say some of the stupidest stuff you ever heard. Insulting as hell. And then when someone heads his way to pound his head in, he'll throw up his hands and say, "Just kidding". "It's a joke".

Whoah, Alpo - Ease up, my lad. I am POSITIVE that JohnHenry meant no disrespect to the Jewish people by this post. I might make a disparaging remark about Kwanza (and have, actually), but in NO WAY would I be taking a swipe at black people by doing that!

I questioned it not because I was offended by the term, which could be because I am thick skinned, but because I did not understand the reference, which could be because I am thick headed.

Alpo, for a guy who seems to spend his time with comics and cartoons, this really seemed to set you off. Any reading that I have ever done on Chanukah states that it is a minimal Jewish event and only a big deal in the US. That was promoted by several rabbis so that US Jewish children could have some sort of Christmas time celebration.

My understanding that in Israel it is practically ignored.
