I keep reading about barrel twist rates. Where do you get this information? I have a Remington 788 in .243, what would the twist rate be and where did you get the info?

it might be engraved in the barrel, or look at the manufacturer's website for your model and it should tell you... it may not say "twist" it may have something on it like "9 inch" to represent a 1 in 9 twist. etc.

I had a .243 many years ago. Shot a rabbit with it. Never found the rabbit.

http://www.remington.com/products/ar...model-788.aspx Yes. a cleaning rod with a tight patch should make 1 turn in 9 inches of travel. I was thinking its 9 1/4 or maybe 10 ??? But guess i am wrong.

Years ago rem rifled thier .243s with 10 twist, then standardized with 9.25 twist. Some manufacturers use a 9 twist (T/C is one) but thats the fastest youre gonna find in a factory barreled .243.
The reason for the 9 twist is because 99% of all factory loaded .243 is loaded with 100 gr bullets at the heaviest. and 9 twist is ideal for most 100 grain 6mm projectiles.
