1874 sharps rifle

    hi I have a 1874 sharps 40 cal sporting rifle .i can get aletter saying that it was sent to a,j.plate in sanfrancisco california on dec.24 1874 it is in good conditon if anyone can let me know what this gun is worth i would greatly appreciate it thanks

    Pictures would be necessary to make even a guess at the value. The name "J. Plate" means nothing to me, but if he was a well known citizen (or criminal) that could affect the value of the gun.

    BTW, your posts would be more readable if you use capitals when appropriate.

    A. J. Plate was one of the larger San Francisco gun dealers 1850s-70s.

    Thanks. After posting that reply, I did some checking and found that out. Goes to prove I should check first, then post.

    Hey, I read it as "it was sent to a J. Plate", like it was "sent to a Frank Jones". Not "sent to A. J. Plate".

    What a difference capitalization makes.
