1878, RANGER .22, 5 SHOT SUICIDE PISTOL

    I HAVE A .22, 7 SHOT, RANGER SUICIDE PISTOL, MADE IN 1878 AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT IT AND THE VALUE. CAN ANYONE HELP ME? THANKS!! JOSA

    Hi josasjam.....welcome to TFF. :)

    Been trying to answer you for a couple of days, but we've been having site problems. :confused:

    "Ranger" is a name associated with Hopkins & Allen on Suicide Specials manufactured in the 1880 era.....but there were many manufacturers of such pistols, and they weren't too careful about respecting other's tradenames, so there's a possibility it was made by somebody else.

    If is this is a H & A (and it most likely is) the price is higher than you might think. According to the Standard Catalog of Firearms:

    Good - $400
    Fair - $175
    Poor - $75

    Please don't try to shoot it. These were made for blackpowder .22 ammo, not modern smokeless powder.....and, they weren't called "Suicide Specials" for nothin'! :D
