Have an 1884 Springfield Trapdoor Carbine with a Scabbard that is approx;32 inches long, all leather with large flaps at the top end front side and straps for carrying on the saddle. I guess that it was used by the Cavalry as one strap has a leather pad that would have protected the horse--no markings that I can see. Can anyone tell me about the scabbardand perhaps a value ? The back side of the scabbard actually has the horse rub pad at the top end and is constructed as an integral part of the scabbard.
