I recently acquired a 1927 Sistema Colt, arsenal reconditioned. First, I am a real 'ditz' when it comes to semi-auto handguns--I just shoot'um. What I would like to do is get one of those 'beavertail grip thing-a-mabob's', a flat mainspring housing, a long or xtra-long trigger and a couple of xtra mags 7 shooters. My question, of course, is what is the best add-ons for the money. I hear some of the aftermarket mags are "junk". Please guide me in this dark tunnel I find myself walking into. This is why I pretty well stick with bolt guns. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated by Ol' John in Hondo! PS I don't want to do any modifications which would detract from the original gun if I decide to put it back in original condition to sell it.

    Hi Hondo......take a look here:

    www.smithandalexander.com/
    www.edbrown.com/cgi-bin/s.../parts.htm
    www.rockriverarms.com/custom/default.htm
    www.powercustom.com/1911/parts_1911.htm
    www.dlask.com/parts.htm

Or.....you can do what I did....go to: www.google.com/ and type in "1911 Custom Parts"

As for what the best add-ons are....what are you planning on using the gun for?....carry? self-defense? competition? (if so, what kind?), attractive paperweight?

BTW, IMO the Systema 1927 is the best 1911 bargain there is....and a great basis for a custom gun. You've picked a winner!

Check out the Wilson Drop-In Beavertail Safety @ Wilson Combat

#429 Series Drop-In Beavertail Safety High Ride Style for Colt Pistols

Now you can have a high ride beavertail grip safety on your Colt pistol without cutting the frame. This provides better control of your pistol while eliminating the discomfort and hammer bite that are possible with stock grip safeties. To return your gun to stock condition, simply re-install the factory part. The drop-in safety is designed to work with a commander style hammer or a bobbed spur hammer. Due to variations from one pistol to the next, slight modifications to the beavertails trigger engagement area may be required for proper operation.

I have parts on my ole gov. from different suppliers and have
found what I think works real good for me.First there are
members here that suggest Wilson-Rodgers magazines for
the 45.After trying out mags from Colt,Mec-gar,Kings,Chip
McCormick and Pro Mag,there is NO DOUBT that Wilson's
mags are THE BEST!I had problems with my slide not locking
back on the last round.I tried all the above with not much
luck until Wilson's.After using these and running close to
300 rounds with no trouble,I'ma bona-fied Wilson customer.
Also was suggested that the slide stop be ck for burrs, which
I did and fixed.I have a drop-in beaver tail grip safety and
it works real well.It too is from Wilson Combat.I've got my
set up like this:Wilson 2-pc full length guide rod,Wolff recoil
    spring,Wilson barrel bushing,Kings extend slide stop,Ed Brown
    safety,Kings combat ejector,Wilson extractor,Kings firing pin,
    Kings short trigger,Bo-mar rear sight,Kings pinball front,Wilson
    extended mag release,Bar-Sto barrel,Wilson barrel link,Kings
four finger sear spring,Wilson ultra sear and disconnector,S&A
flat mainspring housing,Wilson mag well,There has also been
mod's to the slide as it has been lowered and flared, the trigger
guard has been checkered for two hand grip.As you might guess this thing has some bucks in it.But right now it shoots
sweet as the dickins. If your gonna do anything to your 45
    go Wilson.His stuff really is I think,the best.{Ok,enough showin
    my a$$,I just thought you'd want to know that almost anything can be done to the 45.}
