big game, there are several other threads here dealing with the Model 42. Do some searching and see what you can find. Here is an example.
    http://www.thefirearmsforum.com/showthread.php?t=41309

The Model 42 first entered production in 1933. It has been issued in several different grades starting with the standard which I think yours is. Going on to the skeet, Trap, Deluxe and even a Pigeon grade. There is considerable collector interest in these shotguns and of course condition and grade means every thing. Standard grade guns depending on condition will range from $1000 to $2000 unless it is worn badly and the fancier grades go up from there with some fetching over $10,000. With spreads like that you can imagine that each example would have to be closely evaluated.

Welcome to the forum. I have a 1933 mfg. standard grade Model 42 but I am not a collector or expert in them. Hope this helps a little.

biggame, you have what appears to be a very nice gun but your photography work needs a bit of improvement to really give a best guess value.

You have a field grade Model 42 with plain barrel. Would need to see good clear pictures of the markings to determine condition and originality.
