Any of you load this round? Just curious what powder you have found to be the most accurate in your rifle.

It is one of the more efficient and accurate CF 22's. It ruled the BR world for many years until the 22 PPC was developed.

I do not have a 222 rifle; I do not load it. Most individual rifles have one best load that has to be found by trial and error. What shoots winning groups in one rifle, will perform poorly in another rifle.

Loading manuals are a good place to start. Also you might look for a forum that caters to the "one hole stool shooter" crowd.

I did load for this round years ago and I remember that it liked IMR4198 really well behind a 53 gr HP, I also used this same powder in the 221 Remington Fireball with a 53 gr HP

    The 222 was a Remington Model 600, the 221 a Remington XP100

    Lost in SW USA.
Yes I have a Remington model 700bdl in 222. I have used it for some praire dog shooting one year and had alot of fun. I used H-335 26.5gr. with a 50 gr sierra blitz.
That was with PMC brass. I Also used Remington small rifle bench rest primers. It shot as good as I could hold it. You know the kick is so slight that keeping your scope on what your shooting is possible. That makes it even more fun.

Been using 3031 in most everything from 45-70 to my 30 cal's, need to test it out on .223 .222 and 22-250.

Great cartridge and holder of many 100 and 200 yard benchrest records until the 22 and 6mm PPC came along in the mid 70s. Shooting match bullets with a heavy barrel the 222 is easily capable of 1/2MOA accuracy or better with handloads and makes it a great varmint round out to about 250 yds.

I have a couple of them and the powders both seem to like best are IMR 4198 and H322 shooting either Sierra or Hornady benchrest 52 and 53 gr bullets. Charge weights will of course vary but 19.5 to 20.5 or 4198 works well for me as do loads of approx 21.5 grs of H322. I've also found that reloader 7 can produce some excellent accuracy, but I seem to get the highest MV from R7 and use it primarily for varmint hunting loads. Work up to max loads carefully with R7 as I have found that pressures can jump suddenly with only small increases in powder charges.

There are several newer powders I have yet to try and have read that Hodgdon Benchmark also performs well in the 222. Probably my favorite 22 centerfire, well along with the 22PPC.;)

Hope you still have it as some of the older L-461 short actions are bringing some very good prices.
