    Hello,

I am new to the forum and I have a 270 Vanguard and I am wandering if any of the more experianced loaders have any suggestions of loads for both accuracy and hunting. Thanks.....Tim

The only suggestion that I would like to make is the use of 140 grain bullets. For years no one made them and the 130 or 150 grainers were the mainstay of the 270. While both lighter and heavier bullets were available there was nothing in between. Depending on what gun writer one chose to subscribe too there were good arguments either way. The 140 grian Nosler is in my view is a great in between choice.

Yup, the 140gr Nosler Partition is an excellent big-game bullet for the .270 Winchester.

Depending on what you're hunting and your rifle's preference either 130 or 150 might be the right choice. For upper mid-west whitetails (they can get pretty good sized compared to the deer I've seen in your part of the country), I am happy with how the Remington bulk 130gr shoots out of my dad's Remington700. The 130gr Nosler Ballistic Tip works great out of that rifle too on deer. On large deer or elk, I would stick with either the 140 Partition or go up to 150gr.

As for powder, I've pretty much stuck with IMR4831 for my dad's rifle and had great luck with it and that Remington 130gr. A friend of mine prefers Reloder19 for his 140gr Partition loads. As for weights...stick with what the manuals say instead of going by internet "pet" loads. Each rifle is different and one rifle's pet load just might be way too hot for yours.

i have 3 different 270's. my tikka t-3 and a ruger 77 MKII and my sons ithaca lsa65. i load 53 gr IMR4350,130gr combined technology balistic silvertips, winchester brass and CCI250 primers w/oal fo 3.30". this load will shoot sub 1" groups at 100 yds out of all 3 guns with the ithaca being the best with a .475" group. and the tikka @ .505". and the ruger comes in at
.75 ". we use this on PA. whitetail with awsome results.:D now these loads were worked up for my guns so use as an example. good luck in finding a load check out a couple of different loading manuals and experiment to find what works for your gun and have fun thats what reloading is all about.

For most rifle cartridges I use a powder that will most nearly fill the case and yet delivers good velocity. IMR4831, H4831, RL22 are all good powders for .270 as are others. I have had good results with all of these. My current Bambi load is 59.5gr RL 22 under a 130 gr. bullet.

I use 57 gr of h-4831. I started out lower and worked up to the max load. The more powder, the tighter my group got, until I hit 58 and then it opened back up again.

Welcome to the forum Cory! Hope you'll like it here! .270 loads should be getting popular again about this time of year, our annual sight in at the range is coming up in a couple weeks; be plenty of folks getting their deer rifles ready to go.

My pet load for my 270 Win in Ruger M77 is 56.0 gr of H4831 and Federal LR primer under a 130 gr Sierra Spitzer Boat Tail. Start at 55.0 gr and work up. My 270 doesn't like a lot of powder and this load shoots to 3/4" @ 100 if I do my part.
