Three Colt New Service revolvers. One is a model 1909 Army in 45 Colt. The other two are commercial revolvers. One in 38 Special and the other in 38/40.
That 38 Winchester. The cartridges appear to be nickel at the base, and brass in the necked-down area. That an optical delusion from the camera, or are they really like that?
What load you using? I use 6.4 of Titegroup under a 180 lead in mine (1916 vintage). Taffin says 8.0 of Unique is the standard load, but I was not aware of that one when I started, and Titegroup was the only data I could find, so went with that. The smoke you were producing looks like you are either using commercial bullets (with hard lube, which smokes like a bitch) or Unique. Or both.
The brass is just discolored at the neck. UltraMax ammo has brass like that. Could have been either UltraMax factory ammo or reloads using UltraMax brass.
I don`t remember if I was shooting reloads or factory ammo that day. It either case I never have gotten into casting bullets. I do use Unique to reload 38/40. But I don`t remember exactly what the load was. I`d have to look it up. 8.0 grains of Unique is what I use in 45 Colt. Seems like I used less than that in the 38/40.
