I am wondering what has been done for handloads in this caliber, the carbine is a great, light gun that is rather sadly lacking in performance for any game hunting. Recently, there have been so many improvements to ammo such as the 30-30 and 45-70 that have breathed new life into these rounds and given them a new performance standard; what about the 30 carbine?

Has anyone tinkered with loading and/or bullet selection for this round?

I would love to use my carbine for pigs, but it just does not inspire confidence at close range (less than 100 yds.) where I want a pig to be dead/still rather quickly.

  2. I reload for my carbine, bit I am not willing to do anything special with the loads. A 30 carbine at 100 yards is roughly equivalent to the muzzle energy of a 45 ACP. Depending upon the size of the pig, it probably wouldn't guarantee a first round stop.
