Looking to do a few matches this summer if time allows, I have a glock 30 and 21 but I am thinking for cost in ammo as well as possible longer times do to a little more recoil, dropping down to a 9mm or .40 may be a better Idea.

In my humble opinion it doesn’t matter which of the three calibers you choose, as long as you can quickly and effectively control the recoil for follow up shots.

If you are going to shoot more than 6000 rounds over the course of the ownership of the gun buying a 9mm for competition would be good. There is generally a $100-125 difference in cost of 9mm versus 45acp per 1000 round case. So the price difference would justify the 9mm purchase.

In regards recoil control that is a matter of practice and comfort than anything else.

Thanks, looking forward to giving it a go, I probably should have known I was getting ahead of myself.
