I have just started to reload some 454 casull rounds. After reading about the cartridge I am told I should use small rifle primers. I just bought 600 rounds of empty brass that takes large pistol primers. Can anyone suggest what large primers would be best to start with? Thanks,Cougar47

What type of powder, and bullets are you using?

If using powders like unique, standard primers should be fine, but with powders like H110 they should be magnums.

Winchester makes some prmers that say hey are for magnum OR standard loads and those should be fine for Lil' gun or use magnum CCI's

The problem with standard primers comes into play when using powders that almost completely fill the case, then you get a lot of unburned powder fouling up everything....

Who made the 454 brass that takes large pistol primers? I have never heard of any that did not take the small rifle.

The brass has 454 CASULL on the top of the headstamp and NAA towards the bottom of the headstamp. I have no idea what brand they are. Any suggestions? Cougarak47

I just found out that NAA stands for North American Arms.
