Was just watching the news and if the liberals and POTUS get the expiration of the Bush tax cuts ....it will run the govt for a whopping total of 8 days ! That's right eight full days ........:banghead:

Just more proof without massive taxes on us all and massive spending cuts on entitlements, it's not going to balance and the reality is something I don't want to think about . So in closing all the idiots who voted for this Tax the rich scheme good luck with that .....:(

Personally I hope it all goes to Hell the next four years . Let me know how that's working for ya ......I have a plan ....We have a plan here......those of you who don't ......good luck .

Liberals can't do basic math. Anyone that looks at the numbers can clearly tell that they just don't add up.

I'm with you. Bring on the fiscal cliff. Hell lets drive that car straight over it. It'll only get better once it hits rock bottom.

The libs think it is acceptable and righteous if noncontributors to real life, like musicians and movie stars and athletes, make millions. They just want to punish successful business types that actually do contribute something worthwhile to our country.

Next election, remember ALL who went back on their promises to not raise taxes on anyone. If they're willing to throw "The Rich" under the bus, which group will be next to be lied about and singled out. Tax money is nothing but a drug to these addicts, they'll use whatever excuses they need to justify it, and get it from whatever group looks to be the easiest to take it from. Just as drug addicts look for the easiest marks to steal from for their habit.

Barry and the Chicago Mob is in control of the news media. Notice the Dems are opposed to doing away with tax breaks. California and New York both Dem states. These two states have the most millionairs they want to increase taxes on small business. Citizens in California and New York file for more tax breaks than anywhere else. Barry is taking care of his friends.:(

It's not the expiration of the Bush Tax Cuts. It is the impending Obama Tax Hikes!

The "Cliff" is coming, it's too large a problem to be solved at such a late date, even if the government shut down tomorrow.

Politicians love their special pork-programs. Unless you can break that mindset, nothing is going to be different; business as usual.

For those of us in the Dept of Defense, the RIF has already begun. Those of us who remember Vietnam have seen it before. The reductions happen to both military and civilian. Those who are attending TAP classes are finding that the job market to transitioning vets just isn't there, which speaks volumes about the country's health..

The road ahead is not a good one for travel.

While I agree with much of what MSGT-R posts, I disagree here.
Politicians basically try to give their constituents what they want, and in this case it's the constituents mindsets for bigger Govt. and more entitlements.
Social Security and other entitlement programs make up the majority of spending, and the American people have spoken and said thats what they want.
The politicans didn't destroy anything per se, the people did, and particularly the poor and those who believe in entitlements, such as the retired who want more, and those who are basically socialists.
We cannot blame Govt., we are a Govt. of the people, and so the blame falls squarely on us all.
Now if you didn't vote that way, and don't believe in big Govt. and entitlements, then blame your fellow American, but to just try to put this on some politician is in fact unfair, he/she is just delivering the goods per order.
We have done this to ourselves. Or have allowed it to. Or have been delivered into this unwillingly by our neighbors and fellow Americans.
Franklin warned us, and it is coming to fruition.

Well put, but we were warned long before that. Ted Nugent just spoke of a French Thinker who said 200 years ago that our great experiment in Democracy could only last 200 years. That is how long it takes for the "people" to realize they can vote for more handouts from the government in a Democracy.

    Nailed it.

Let's drill a little deeper into that observation. What is their motivation for this? Altruism? Perpetuation of their own power? Something else?

I think their primary motivation, generally, is the perpetuation of their own power.

If the USA goes over the "fiscal cliff", will those in govt. have enough gray matter to make the changes necessary to prevent it from ever happening again? NOT A CHANCE. The collective brain power in dc could not light a 4 watt bulb.

Unfortunately, it won't take that long.

My plan is in place. Just waiting.

I retired from a gov't arsenal. If the gov't goes broke I get no more retirement checks. I say let it go over the cliff and when the dust settles hit the reset. I'll survive.

Power of course. Some say money, but money is power, and power is money.
And so to maintain that power, a politician MUST be perceived to be working for the "people".
No one is going to vote for a self serving politician, even though that is ALL they are(with VERY few exceptions).
And honestly, isn't that what MOST of us are? Self serving? For our families and our pride?
    But there is a difference.
If ANY politician stood up and told the hard truth of our finances, and that we simply can't pay for all that SS, medicare and medicaid, he/she wouldn't be there long. So they kick the can down the road.
But the end of the road is in sight, and the can is pretty battered.
Face it folks, this site is made up primarily of self determined, working folk who believe in standing on their own feet and perseverence through whatever confronts them, but much of the country is NOT like that anymore.
Class envy has won out over pride and self relience, we are a dying breed.
The welfare state is upon us, and we are outnumbered.

Following in the footsteps of the Roman Empire. The Roman senators got re elected by giving out welfare and favors--entertainment at the Circus Maximus for example. They were morally corrupt and the country had rotted from the inside out. It was unable to stand up to the attacks that finally brought it down.

We can pray that things turn around.
