Shooters,
With help from this forum, I've found success loading and shooting (in my Stoeger Cougar) 9mm rounds with 4 gr of Red Dot behind a 124 gr round nose cast bullet from the Indiana Bullet Co. This bullet, currently at the minimum overall length, jams into the rifling of my son's S&W M&P and won't let the action close. I took out his barrel, dropped some rounds in, and measured the overhang (minus the amount for an empty case). If I seat the bullet sufficiently deeper, it will be under the minimum OAL for a bullet of that size.
So my choices are:
1) Buy a lighter, shorter bullet.
However, I don't know how much lighter a bullet I need. My only Red Dot load data (Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook and Lee Modern Relaoding [2002]) are for 125, 120 and 90 grain cast bullets. A 90 gr bullet may miss the riffling but still be beneath the Minimum OAL.
2) Buy a cone-shaped bullet of 124 gr such as some I have seen at the Missouri Bullet Co.
3) Wait until I am able to find a different pistol powder.
I have emailed Alliant to ask if they have additional load data that may help; but if you have some hints for me, they will be much appreciated.
