My 12 year old son and I got up early and headed out to hunt. We got in the stand just before 5 a.m, me with my 50 cal CVA smoke pole and my son with his Martin bow. About 7:30 he says "dad there are deer coming". I see 2 deer at about 120yds walking to us. Figuring they were doe I hand him my smoke pole and tell him to shoot one. As he's looking through the scope he says ones a buck and hands back my gun since they were on a string walking right to us. They get about 20yds and he dropped the hammer on this decent little 6pt. Not bad for his first buck and first deer with a bow. Here's a pic of him with it. I'm one proud dad.
P.S. I'm pretty sure my smile was still bigger than his lol
Thanks fellas! It was a day I'm sure both of us won't soon forget.
I started him shooting at 3 years old and he's been going hunting with me since he was 4. When he was 6 his pap and I took him to a game preserve here in PA and he shot a nice hog with my 222. There's just nothing like harvesting your first white tail.
Thanks guys. We have a 3 day youth rifle doe hunt here, so his pap is taking him out Friday and Saturday. He's pretty excited about that, but still hasn't decided on which rifle to take. Too many choices I guess lol.
Good deal, sure remember my boys starting out on deer myself. We came from Crawford Co, Pa to Alaska over 20 years back; We don't have whitetails but they are moving in from Canada; maybe my grandkids will be shooting whitetails one of these days.
I started all my nephews hunting back east many years back. They would have never started if I hadn't taken them, now they all hunt here in Alaska with me. We all have to cultivate the young hunters as our country becomes more urbanized or we will lose what we got.

PA implemented antler restrictions several years ago. Some parts of the state, bucks have to have atleast 3 points on one side, other parts have to have a minimum of 4.
