ACORN hit with more La. subpoenas

Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell’s office filed more subpoenas seeking documents in its investigation of the community activist group ACORN.

The court order requires the release of financial documents from Citizens Consulting Inc., a financial management group that shares ACORN’s Elysian Fields offices along with the group’s accountants. The subpoena filed in Baton Rouge’s 19th Judicial District Court on Friday specifically demands income reports to the government, financial statements, bank card statements and other financial documents.

“We issued these subpoenas as part of our ongoing activities and investigations,” said Assistant Attorney General David Caldwell on Monday.

The Attorney General’s Office also filed subpoenas Aug. 11 seeking documents from ACORN and affiliated groups.

The investigation began in June into the New Orleans branch of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, according to documents filed with the court by the Attorney General.

The probe began after members of ACORN’s board of directors accused the brother of the group’s founder of embezzling nearly $1 million, according to the subpoena.

ACORN was founded in 1970 by Wade Rathke of New Orleans. It has 361 related tax-exempt and non-tax exempt subsidiaries, the subpoena states.

A review of records in Orleans Parish found 57 liens filed against ACORN-related companies by the U.S. Treasury Department for failing to properly pay withholding taxes valued at $1.1 million. The Louisiana Department of Revenue claims ACORN officials failed to pay about $333,0000 in withholding taxes, according to the subpoenas.

Sounds like yet another vast right wing extremist conspiracy. To expect them to abide by the law? C'mon.

The core people in ACORN will let the peeons take the fall in court while they rename everything WALNUT or PEANUT or PECAN or something like that. Then they'll be back in business in a few weeks with a new name and new peeons to take the fall. Rathke and his brother will still be in charge and will still be bilking the taxpayers for millions, just like usual:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
