Does anyone have a reference on the age of a H&R 922 9 Shot Revolver serial number 186687?

It is blue with about 95% of the bluing left. Odd styled Wood grips with a cross diamond checkering pattern on a one piece grip. Has a center pin with a push in latch to release the cylinder. There is an empty cartridge port on the right hand side of the frame right behind the cylinder.

    Cylinder: Marked with PAT1904.730

Barrel: 5 3/4" round barrel with a fixed blade front sight

    1. What is the age?

    2. What series is this pistol? When I looked for parts (Center Pin), they asked for the letter series. It is not listed on the gun.

    3. Can this pistol shoot standard/high velocity .22lr or am I relegated to .22 long? It is not stamped anywhere on the gun as to what .22's it will shoot.

    Thanks for all your help

when looking for parts for this gun tell the supplier it is a pre1940 model. this should have the birds head grip frame called "RICE FRAME" by collectors and some people even call it the second model 922.

Your 922 is capable of handling .22 lr high speed/high velocity rounds -IF- it is in a "safe to shoot" condition. If you don't know how check for this condition - you'd be well advised to take it to a gunsmith for evaluation. I do not and suggest that you do not shoot the newer "hyper velocity" rounds through any of the pre 1950's H&R .22 handguns. Staying with "standard" velocity .22 lr rounds is an even better option to prolong the life and utility of these older firearms.

    B. Goforth: TY so very much for the info.

Jim Hauf: Ty for the info on the ammo. This looks like it will be a fun gun to shoot. The grip is so odd compared to my other revolvers like a S&W and a Colt.
