I am looking at a used AMT Commander model 1911. Asking about $450. What are your thoughts on them? Accuracy, Durability, Fun? Let me know if you have/had one.

I have two AMT Raiders and I love them both.

That is not a bad price for an AMT Commander. Probably less than you'll find elsewhere.

Just make sure you use grease (lube) on the slides instead of just oil. It helps against galling the rails on the stainless steel guns. Oh, and wear dark clothes when shooting.

    Commander or Commando?

I've got a Commando. Commander size (or maybe a little smaller), 40 S&W. Target sights, oversized safety, slide stop and beaver-tail grip safety. It's never let me down, once I cut down that waaay too big safety (recoil was making me put it on, accidently) but truthfully, it sits more than it gets shot.

    See this thread.

Well I went ahead and bought it. It is the government model not commander. Sorry. I will post some pics and a post-range report in a few days. Thanks for your comments.

Well, I haven't made it to the range yet but I made a pic. I am pretty happy with my new addition thus far.
