A witness in the trial of a man accused of murdering his mother's lover in an honour killing says the victim was bashed with a hammer "like a piece of meat".
Nada Bayley said she tried to help the man as he was being attacked, but the offenders kicked her into the gutter.
She was giving evidence in the NSW Supreme Court in the trial of Andrew Iskandar, 21, and his mother, Nita Iskandar, 47, today.

Andrew Iskandar is charged with murdering Mohd Shah Saemin about midnight on February 21, 2010.
Nita Iskandar is accused of being an accessory after the fact, allegedly helping him flee to Singapore after the death.
    Both have pleaded not guilty.
Andrew Iskandar and another man allegedly set out to murder Mr Saemin after Nita Iskandar's affair with the Malaysian consulate driver became a talking point among Sydney's Indonesian community.
Crown prosecutor Kara Shead previously told jurors the men carried out the honour killing to protect the family after finding out about the affair.
The Crown alleges Andrew Iskandar was armed with a hammer during the attack outside Mr Saemin's Leichhardt unit in Sydney's inner west, while the second offender had a knife.
In a walk-through video played to the jury, Ms Bayley described how she heard a commotion while walking home to her mother's house on the night of the killing.
She saw two offenders hitting and kicking the victim before the man ran across the road towards her, tripping on the kerb.
"When he fell on the ground I put myself over him and told the guys to leave him alone," she said.
"Both of them kicked me in the gutter."
She said the man with the hammer then started "bashing him like a piece of meat".
"Like trying to kill," she said, later adding the other offender, armed with a crow bar, kicked him in the ribs.
Ms Bayley described seeing a "hole" in the side of the victim's face, as if "the skin was torn".
The trial before Justice David Davies is continuing.
