I recently found my late grandfather's old .38 which had been packed away for years. Pistol is completely in pieces and missing the barrell and grips , everything else seems to be there. The serial number I find is as follows : D 75630 and there is a seperate 1190 stamped near the base ,these numbers were behind where the grip would go. Would anyone be able to tell me anything about the piece and if parts are still around ?? Would love to get the old girl fixed up . I learned how to shoot on this when I was a kid in the 1960's
is this a top break revolver or a solid frame revolver. the only use i can find of the D letter code is on the safety automatic hammerless models (both second and third models), the small frame model 1900 in 22 rimfire caliber and the model 57/57A also in 22 rimfire caliber. with the barrel missing i would tend to think it is a top break. if it is a top break does it have a flat leaf or coil hammer spring.

the exact date would depend on the patent date and where they are located.
the D letter code was used on the safety automaitc hammerless revolver between 1896 and 1902. with the barrel missing we probably never no the exact date. the second model was made between 1895 and 1908.
Thanks for all your help Bill ! Hopefully the barrell turns up , still wading my way thru old boxes of Grandad's. If not , I am going to try and find a parts gun at a show or local dealer in my area. Looking at parts on the Nummrich site , this is a second model. My goal is to have this redone by July 2011 when my brother returns home from millitary deployment as this would make a really neat welcoming home present . I have ordered your book from the link provided.
Thanks Again !
