A friend brought this old round for me too look at the otherday, we have never seen one like it and just wondered if anyone had any info on it.

It has no markings or primer pocket (just four holes in the base) I think it may be from one of the old capping carbines like Burnside or Maynard where you loaded the round but still used a percussion cap

    Any ideas ?

    Cheers

I think you are probably right. I just can't figure which one. Burnside is shaped totally different. Maynard has a huge rim. Smith has even less rim than this has.

    Hi Alpo
yes I have photos of some of the more common ones, Maynard, Requa-Billinghurst, Burnside and Gallager, but no info on this one.

    It's bit of a mystery.

Just a W.A.G. but could it be a standard rimfire cartridge of the era that has been 'de-milled' as a sample?
