ok here it is from armalite ,I emailed them and asked about the ar from them being C&R eligible they replied and said {that with a C&R you can only buy parts} ,I emailed back and asked {did parts include a receiver} ,they replied {yes it does} ,so you cant order a whole rifle ,but you can order all the parts to put it together ,go figure

    the information came from armalite

doc it is listed in the C&R list

    sec iv chapter 44
    {Armalite ar15 , .222 Remington or .223 cals,produced by Armalite.}

    --------------------
so I emailed armalite and they give me the above information ,when I get a C&R license I will ask the batf

Section IV? Without checking the list, I believe Section IV is NFA weapons (read: Full-auto) classified as C&R. I strongly doubt a current production, semi-auto Armalite would be considered a C&R.

Let's see if I remember correctly: Section I is ammo considered C&R (now obsolete by law), Section II is the vast majority of firearms considered C&R (milsurp, over 50 years, commemorative, etc), Section III is firearms that were considered NFA and C&R, but by virtue of the weapon is no longer considered NFA (some short-barreled guns, etc), and Section IV is current NFA items that are considered C&R (original Armalite production, original tube Stens, etc.).

    How'd I do?

You did fine. Note that the current production Armalite is the M15-A2, M15-A4, etc. The original "AR15" Armalite is on the C&R list but still subject to the NFA.

When you called Armalite, you apparently got some maroon on the phone that thought you were talking about the M15. You can buy parts for that rifle without any license at all, but to buy the receiver you have to have a Dealer's FFL.

GP what's their number? I'll give them a call also and see if we get the same answer. Maybe even buy one if I can buy it directly from them.

While you're at it, call Colt and get a couple of Model P Single-Actions. Same logic, right?

Hmmm. Bet you a beer she's referring to an upper receiver - the non-serialized part.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Absolutely.

    a) the receiver (lower - the serialized part) is the firearm. The rest of it is just parts.

    b) Armalite does not make an AR-15. They make an M15.

    c) Carla at Armalite is not the sharpest tack in the box.

Find "Armalite M15-A2" on the C&R list.
