It's in good condition, has all of the markings including the chrysanthamum. i really have trouble with that one. I can't get to it to take pictures until next week, but I wa looking for a rough value on it. No duffel cut or bayonet. but it does have the original cleaning rod.

Just saw one on sons of guns with the same markings in place in great shape. They estimated the value around 4-500 in that shape.

Thanks Dan, my grandfather's uncle brought it back from the war. Neither were into guns, so it sat in the closet since 1944.

A very nice early gun, with mum, could go for $600. Ones in average condition, and late war rifles, run around $300 or less. Subtract more for a ground mum.

It's an early war model, in 7.7 jap, which is basically an rimless .303 brit. The 7.7and 6.5 ammo for these isn't as hard to find as they made it out to be in the episode. Also when I was given this gun this past winter, it took me a whole ten minutes on my phone to figure out what it was.

There is plenty of modern 7.7x58 ammo around, and cases can be easily made from .30-'06 cases. There has been a lot written about making cases from .30-'06, mostly of the "blow up the gun" variety. Nonsense, of course. The 7.7x58 base is only enough larger than that of the .30-'06 to cause a slight bulge, and 7.7x58 will usually fit into a .30-'06 chamber.
