New York: Micro-Stamping Bill To Be Heard In Senate Codes Committee Tomorrow!

    Monday, June 01, 2009

    Contact Your State Senator Immediately!

Senate Bill 4397, sponsored by State Senator Eric Schneiderman (D-31), is a bill that would ban the sale of all semi-automatic handguns not equipped with micro-stamping technology.

Micro-stamping is an unproven technology that would require unique identifying information from the firearm, including the make, model, and serial number to be etched into the firing pin and breech face in such a manner that those identifiers are imprinted on the cartridge case upon firing. The technology can easily be defeated with common household tools, has no public safety value, and adds substantially to the cost of the firearm.

If S4397 is passed, it will become ILLEGAL to sell or transfer any semi-automatic pistol that is not capable of micro-stamping. This would mean that any semi-automatic handgun that you currently own could never be sold or transferred in New York. This would ban the sale of used semi-automatic handguns without the technology and would prohibit estates from bequeathing semi-automatic handguns that do not include micro-stamping technology.

No manufacturers currently incorporate micro-stamping technology in their firearms, which would result in a de facto ban on all semi-automatic handguns in New York if this legislation passes.

It’s companion bill, Assembly Bill 6468, sponsored by State Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel (D-16), has already passed the Assembly Floor.

S4397 has been added to the Senate Codes Committee agenda for tomorrow, Tuesday June 2 at 10:30 A.M.

It is critical that you contact members your State Senator TODAY and respectfully urge them to OPPOSE this measure! Your State Senator can be contacted through the Senate switchboard at (518) 455-2800. To find your State Senator, please click here.

Kimber Mfg., Inc. Opposes Microstamping Legislation Proposed by NY State General Assembly

YONKERS, N.Y., June 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Given what is known today about microstamping technology, Kimber Mfg. is opposed to the microstamping legislation proposed by the NY State General Assembly.

Microstamping is a patented technology which purportedly allows a manufacturer to laser-engrave a firearm's make, model and serial number on the firing pin of each firearm. Independent study of this technology has been unable to substantiate its efficacy. In fact, studies have shown that the technology is flawed and requires further testing, analysis, and evaluation.

In addition, Kimber is unaware of any study or findings that show microstamping technology to be an effective means of reducing the criminal misuse of firearms.

And finally, in the event this technology is deployed it would likely increase costs and compromise our ability to provide the same level of full benefit manufacturing jobs in the State of New York.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought the process was applied to the ammo, not the firearm.

In either case, the sheer stupidity/ignorance of anyone that would vote for this is mind numbing.

It is a proven fact that Micro stamping on firing pins does not work! you can file down the micro stamping with out affecting the function of the firearm! or just simply replace the firing pin....

Stupidity/ignorance have nothing to do with it. Harassment and failure to comply is the crux of the matter. Gun control by any means available. Vote against anyone who votes for stuff like this and spread the word.
