O.K. here are the pictures of the Arisaka. I was mis identifying it as a Jap 99. However, I have serched for Arisaka's with what I believe have Arabic lettering on it. Is this a copy of a type 38 Arisaka made by some other Arabic country or am I just crazy. I have tried to find out online, yet...no luck. There are a lot that are close to it however none quite like it. The bolt is bent, too. Is this some bastardized version of the arisaka or what. again, all info is appreciated...I'm tired of searching online.

I went to my local expert....he seems to know about every gun put in front of him. He told me it(the Arisaka) was a cut down Type 38 used by Thia police. Can anybody confirm that or support it with info? Isee I've had ten views of this post...anybody with info. I raced into work today to check this post like it was Christmas morning......and like Christmas morning all I got was a lump of coal!

    Anyone?

    Hmmmmm.....this is a strange one.

Your "local expert" could well be right. Your rifle could be a Siamese Contract Type 38 with the forestock and handguard missing.

That's certainly a "Charkra", and the writing appears to be Siamese.

There's a picture of a Siamese Contract Arisaka Type 38 here:

    http://www.collectiblefirearms.com/RiflesArisaka.html

However.....there are differences between your rifle and the one pictured...

    1) Straight vs. bent bolt

    2) Bolt "carve out" in stock vs. none

    3) Sling "carve out" in buttstock vs. none

    4) Distance from front sight to handguard

The most puzzling thing is that your stock appears to be original, and the bent bolt also appears to be original, and differ considerably from the Siamese Type 38 in the link above.

It could be that there were more than one type of Type 38 supplied to Siam by Arisaka under various contracts.....could well be that the Type 38s supplied to the Siamese Police differed from the ones supplied to the Siamese Military. That's the only explanation I have for the differences between yours and the one pictured in the link above.

Here are a few good Arisaka websites (but they don't show your rifle):

    http://members.shaw.ca/nambuworld/arisakas.htm
    http://world.guns.ru/rifle/rfl22-e.htm
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arisaka

Sooooo.....my best guess is that your "local expert" knows what he's talking about......that you have a (quite rare) Siamese Police Type 38 Arisaka Carbine.

Sorry I couldn't nail this one down for you, but hope this is better than a lump of coal in your stocking.....:)

    Xracer,
Thanks for the info. I've been having the hardest time trying to find more info on this gun so what you provided me is great. I've been making good strides in the last few days but its been frustrating. There's only so many sites and links you can visit before your eyes start bugging out of your head. Hopefully, someone can give me more answers as it goes along, and your info is a step in the right direction. That lump of coal be dammed:D Thanks again

I'm Still going. I just looked up Thai numbers on line. I found out that the numbers on my gun are 1793 in Thia on the receiver and bolt. Then I remembered the picture I took of the stock.[IMG]

Anybody with info I would love to know more or a site I could visit
