I have a Bayard 32 acp vest pocket pistol, s/n 1497xx. It is marked "Modele Depose", "Anciens Establissments Pieper", "Herstal-Belgium", and "Brevete s.g.d.g. Patented Sept. 8 1908." It is an unusual little gun, as I am sure you all are aware.
Does anyone know anything about these guns? When this thing was made?
Is it safe to shoot with modern ammo?
I would like to thank you for your assistance in this matter.

It was made after 1908! They are very small guns-well made.
If it is in good shape, I see no reason you couldn't fire it.

If it looks like this, it was made before 1930.

After the occupation,1914, some of these were issued to the imperial German Army. The WWI Bayards have military inspection marks in place of the Belgian proof marks.

That's one neat little pocket gun. I looked at the two that are on the auction. One looks like yours, pretty good shape, the other is listed as a parts gun. $275 on the nicer one. If I weren't gun poor now I might bid on the nicer one. The parts gun is $150. Get some .32 ACP ammo and go for it.

My book says this is the smallest 32 auto made. Of course, this book was written before Seacamp and NAA 32s. Says the recoil is quite heavy, for a 32, because of that small size.
