I'm looking for info on a shotgun for my father, can anyone help?
    Here is what I know:
    *"E" over "L G " mark (in oval w/crown on top)
*one barrel marked 16.0 over 16.6, other marked 16.5
    *there is a double script "E" (I think it's "e"s)
    *16c in diamond marks
    *Star over "F" mark
*3 "chevrons" in diamond pattern with line out top
    *#05111 stamp
    *77 or LL stamp
*small square mark followed by 510
*double overstamp almost unreadable-ends with "oke"
*all these mark appear on bottom of barrels, hidden till broken down

gun has thumb hammers, scrolled in good shape overall, he has kept it cleaned and oiled but not fired for 50-60 years. The forestock, which I assume was wood has been replaced with a piece made of plastic he calls "ironwood" (bakelite maybe?) this piece is well made, he thinks a farmhand made the piece, but I think it may have been swapped from another gun.

was brought to US after WWII

Thanks in advance for any help you may offer!

This is the bore size in MM
Those numbers indicate it is between 16 & 17 ga

    Thanks Pop and 22WRF,
I took pic with cellphone but it is useless, the markings are too small. will try to borrow camera for decent pics. Is it unusual for a gun made in Belgium to be marked in English?(E/LG mark is Belgium?) I'm guessing the double "E" is the makers mark, wish I could just google it! Will post more info when I get it.
    Merry Christmas to All!

This sounds like an Excelsior double barrel shotgun, 1890-1914 roughly.

The ELG indicated it was proofed for Black Powder after 1893. It probably has a Damascus laminated (rolled) steel barrel.

I am doing some research for a friend, found some info, and your question.

Do not shoot this gun without having it checked by a gunsmith well versed with older guns. The pressures of modern shotshells tend to be much higher than their older counterparts from 100 years ago. Also, there were differences in chamber lengths, as well as barrel wall thicknesses that truly need to be measured to see if they are safe.

Finally, there have been some reports of corrosion between the lamination layers. This would weaken what was once, a pretty strong barrel.

hi, i found a shotgun that belonged to my grandfather and the markings are similar, but i had no luck in finding what time the gun is from.

it has the elg marking in a oval WITHOUT a crown.
    the perron is also present,
    a L
the initials I.S. and the number 1007
what seem a D in handriting stile font, with a small y right after
a capital L where the barrel links to the shot gun.
its a relatively old gun since it fires pin shells...

    thanks for the help;)

Welcome to the forum Dmaster. The ELG without crown indicates made before 1893, and probably a decade or two earlier if a pinfire. The other marks are just inspector marks and possible initials of workmen who fitted the parts.

Not much else to tell without photos
