I went to a church just a couple miles from there this morning (though an hour plus drive for me). Preacher's house was actually just 2 blocks down, and his garage door was damaged by the blast.

My guess? Natural gas. Really just a guess, though.

Same as Josh, just a guess, but it has all the ear marks of a natural gas leak/explosion.

Same thing happened in northern CA, and the insuing fire destroyed an entire neighborhood. Not just a home leak, a pipeline is my guess. But then again, California homes don't have basements (earthquake country).

I'd have to guess gas leak. For it to be a meth lab that'd have to be one helluva lab set up .

A gas leak would cause this?

Yes it would. I have been on an explosion like this in the past. It is amazing what a major pocket of gas in a house that is touched off by a pilot like can do.

A gas leak caused that by accident. The owner of the house had tried for some time to sell it. He was gone and the wife and daughter had decided to stay in a hotel that night.

With a picture like that, it won't take the investigators long to find the source..

First time I heard this. If it's true I would bet the farm a loosened gas fitting would fill a closed-up house with enough fumes to easily do this much damage. At the point at which a small spark from a relay, a start/run switch on a furnace motor, a fridg. start-relay, coffee pot, even an iron thermostat, ignites the fumes and there goes the neighborhood. Very few other things could cause this much damage.

It could well have been a gas leak. We've had a couple of those over here. The damage looked to be onthe same scale.
