Hey guys,
My son & I were working on his Traditions 50cal Hawken kit.
We scrubbed and degreased the barrel and then cold blued it using Birchwood Casey PERMABLUE. It came out fine and after about three coatings had a nice consistent color and finish density. We washed it all down with plenty of clean freshwater and soap, rinsed with water, dried with a towel and then rubbed it down inside with TC BORE BUTTER and outside with Outers Gun oil and lubricant.
IT looked great and we were quite pleased with the finish. Fast forward...
One week later he shows up at the house to work on the kit some more and now the barrel looks like it was browned! (Just a slight bit darker.)
What gives? What could we have done wrong???
