They are good shotguns. My first ever was a 500A from walmart.

Always loved the 870 because of where the safety is located versus the Mossy 500. The neew "breacher model" Mossy has does look pretty bada$$ though.

Do you think it will be to much for my boy to shoot?Hes only 13 but he is 5'9 200lbs.He shoots the 20 guage no problem.I got a slip on pad for his 20 to give him a little extra padding.I was thinking I would get one for the 12 for him to if he wants to shoot it.

its not the size of the guns ga. that causes problems, its the flinch and anticipated recoil that does.
hand someone a 20ga and theyll think...hmmm smaller. pow.
hand him a 12ga next and they think...hmmm bigger. BOOM!

flinch = low shots. ryan and his son will learn about that at the #1 TFF/MO. FUN SHOOT in july, when i load them the famous empty round to check flinch.;)

ryan...what are the barrel lengths on your new guns?

He should be able to handle it OK. If I recall correctly, bird shot like what you use for clays gives a lighter kick than slugs.
The kick also depends on the gun. My cousin handed me a 20 guage to shoot; it had been in the family a while and I knew about it...it had one wild kick compared to a 12 guage.

The new 12 guage is 28 inches, the 20guage is 26 inches. We went out a shot the new on today. The kick was pretty close to the same.Brandon did very well with the 12 guage. It was pretty windy today so we didnt shoot to many clays.Tommorrow will be a different story. Its not supposed to be windy and we plan on doing alot of shooting tommorrow.

My son just got the Mossberg 500 a few weeks ago. I got the Mossberg 535. My grandson was shooting both. He is 16 about 5"10' 180 lb. He had no problem shooting these shotguns. I had a hard time getting mine back.
