Hey all I was wondering if having carpeting in a reloading room was a bad idea. Would static Electricity be a concern?

    Thanks!

Yes I would think that would be a concern.

Especially if one were to be working with black powder.

    Just MHO............

Not to mention that using a vacuum might pick up enough dust and spilled powder to be of concern. I have heard of one exploding way back when.

Not a good idea from the aspect of spent primers burying themselves into the carpet, only to found the next time you decide to go barefoot across the room.

It's much easier to clean up and maintain a floor when it's hardwood or solid surface. At a minimum, I would put one of those large plastic mats down in the area around your bench.

Static discharge is much more of a hazard with black powder, but it can be a hazard with alot of different things. Just depends on the static charge and the volatility of the subject matter.

I wouldn't worry about static, but spilled powder, and especially dropped primers, get lost. I've heard of people vacuuming their reloading room, and a dropped primer blowing up the wife's Hoover.

Is the reloading room in the basement or on concrete floor?
