My youngest son convinced me to take a few guns out today and shoot at targets. I figured I would finally get a chance to do the range report for my 1911.

All the shots were taken from about 30 feet. The gun felt great in my hands. Weight and balance were perfect. The trigger on this thing is smooth and crisp....about a 3.5 lb pull right now. (that's with no modifications;))

I was using the reloads I did last month. 230 grain cast with 4.5 grains of Winchester 231 powder. All the brass fed fine with no issues and/or failures.....the spent casings looked good too (didn't come out looking all powder burnt up like the normal Winchester jacketed loads I regularly shoot:rolleyes:)

I personally feel that I could shot better groups. The Novak sights on the gun are black with no reference points to them. I have a hard time right now focusing on them when I am shooting (I guess I need better sights or some fingernail polish:D)

Let me know what you think.

The funny thing is on the first target I know I hit it all 8 times, but I can't find #8. The second target I did a little faster to see if could get a decent group. I am a good enough shot to get the job done. I think next time I will push it to about 50 ft.

That means a lot to me coming from a shooter/gunsmith such as you Josh. :)

When I get the sight issue resolved, then we will really see what that bad boy can do.

Drop a set of Heinie Str8 8s or some Novak 3 dots. IF you wanna spend 100 bucks or more on a set of night sights Trijicon and Meprolight are top notch.

I am rather fond of the slantpro Str8 8s. I like the dot over dot alignment.

That looks like a table chocked full of fun and to spend it with you son makes it even better.

Actually my daughter came outside to. She likes shooting that rough rider. She is a very good shot as well....and she is only 12.

That ammo can is full of loose 22lr rounds........so I let them shoot the 22's as much as they want.
