I received this from a distant cousin in Missouri that has been researching our family geneology for years. She just wanted me to see the uniform worn by this Missouri State Militia soldier named John Berry. Berry is one of the family surnames mixed in with ours and was the first and middle names of a lot of my ancestors. This soldier was in Company H of the MSM. Most of my relatives that served was in Company I, she says.
Anyway, I was curious about the cap and ball revolver and wondered if anyone might know the make. Is this an early version of an Army Colt or a Navy Colt?
We won't even mention this guys hair. Just goes to prove that nothing ever changes. I wonder if it was green...............

It appears to be an early Army/Navy Colt in .31 caliber.

From the size, and the fluted cylinder, I'd say it was either a Colt Model 1862 Police Revolver, or the Manhatten Arms copy of it.

But I agree.....unless he was a really big guy, looks a bit small to even be a Police Model.
