I have a Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless .32 serial #4. It is in the 65% - 80% condtion range with no box. The gun has British markings. I wanted to know what the gun maybe worth.

If the serial number is as you describe it, LOTS!, for the single digit serial # alone. The British markings in conjunction with a single digit number my indicate that it was a sample sent to Great Britian aroun 1903.

This is not my strong field. Other more knowledgeable Colt collector members will likely join in soon.

I have a Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless .32 serial #4. It is in the 50% - 60% condtion range with no box. The gun has British markings. I wanted to know what the gun maybe worth and where I might be able to find more information.

http://www.coltautos.com/default.asp Couple of things bother me, the slide does look as if it belongs to that pistol , and the frame looks refinished, that 4 doesn't not look like any Colt stamped four I've ever seen.

The British proof marks on the frame, slide, and barrel all match. The gun to my knowledge has not been refinished; at least not in the last 60 years. The arrow markings, one on the slide and the other on the frame match-up perfectly when the slide is locked open. As far as the discoloration, I am assuming it’s from being worn in some sort of holster? The four looks to be identical to the other fours in serial numbers from that same year.

Brando1, you may very well be correct, it's hard to make a determination from a photo. Go the site posted, you can e-mail him and he is the expert. BTW, please let us know the outcome:)

You are not likely to get top dollar without an authentication letter from Colt.

You can call Colt's historical research and authentication department at 1 800 962 2658. You probably will want Ext. 1343 or 1373. They will be able to advise you as to costs and how to send your photos.

Thanks for the replies. I have had this gun for many years and just started researching it. I will have to get an authentication letter from Colt when I have some extra money. I just wanted to get everyone's take on it. Any information is helpful.
