This one is for you Colt collectors. I have a pre 1904 Army-Navy
Commercial 38 long Colt with a 4 1/2 " barrel. It has a cc cylinder
rotation and the side plate is on the right side. The patent dates
of 84-88-95 are on top of barrel next to frame and on the side of the barrel next to frame it has Colt DA 38. The Colt stallion is in a circle on the left side of frame near the grip. The cylinder has double notches and short flutes and black rubber grips with the
Colt and the stallion in a circle. The cylinder latch is square and that and the crane have the # 878 stamped on it . The serial #
is on the butt and only the first and the last three digits are readable, one # on top the other three under it. On the far end of the but is stamped A 30. It is blue and overall it 60%.
Would like some idea of the value.
    Thanks

Hi Chief and welcome to TFF. From your description I can only find the 1892 "New Army and Navy" model (2nd issue) and model 1895 was a variation of it. In 60%, my old book (1998) says $400. Hope this helps!

Hi Chief.......welcome to TFF. Hope you'll stay around and enjoy all of our forums.

    Yep...it's an 1892 2nd issue.

I have a later issue of the Blue Book (23rd Edition - 2002) and unfortunately, it appears as though the value has dropped a bit.

Military issue is worth $300 in 60% condition. Civilian versions are 10% to 25% less.

The 2003 Standard Catalog of Firearms gives the following values for the civilian version:

    Good - $500

    Fair - $200

I figure $250 to 300 is a reasonable estimate for your gun.
