I have always seen the Colt Gold Cups listed as "Colt Gold Cup" only. I recently seen a Colt Gold Cup National Match that was listed for sale. Is there a Colt gold cup and a Colt gold cup national match 1911's?? I never seen them listed as national match. But i don't follow the different years and models that closely. I was just wondering if there is two different models or its just a name change. Bill

I'm not positive, But I think they are two defferent pistols. I found in the blue book that there is a national match and a gold cup national match.

Great write up lots of dated interesting info. I need to print it out and file it. I felt like a fool asking this if i was wrong but i just noticed the two different wordings and was interested if there is one or two NM 1911's heck there are others too. Thanks; Bill

BTW; I been thinking of getting one but i'm not sure if i want an older one or a newer one. If there priced near each other its going to be tough to pick one. Just browsing for right now, but i'm not familiar with them and is one year or model better than the other in the gold cup/national match 1911's?

The Colt Gold Cup can be made into a tack driver with a little work. An original National Match 1911 can get expensive quick if you can find a collector willing to sell one.

I have owned several series 70 GCNM 1911's and they are OK for the average shooter. A custom built 1911 will out shoot them due to more time going into the fitting.
    Hope this helps.

Shooter, That's some good info on the 1911 match pistols. Thanks a lot for posting that link.

As I recall, I wrote that article for Syd sometime in 2003. There are some pictures on Syd's site by Andy Wander and Dane Burns supplied some quotes. A joint effort.
I had a computer problem and submitted the article thru several emails. I know Syd was going crazy trying to put it together. :)

Thru it all, I kept my sanity. Yeah, right. ;):D
