For some reason I have been addicted to using a old single shot like a Remington rolling block or something similar to hunt with never own as of yet but if I got I know I would have to use it at lease once just curious thanks
My go-to is a 1952 Marlin 336RC in .30-30, Grandpa's Gun.
Actually sold my Marlin 1895-SSBL in .45-70 as I just kept grabbing the .30-30
instead when I went hunting...just something about using a good gun with family history!!
I sometimes hunt modern season with a muzzleloader. I have hunted with a trapdoor Springfield. If I get to do any hunting this year I intend to do my damnedest to take one with a repro 1863 Sharps papercutter. Practice with it at different ranges so you know how it shoots at any given range.
Trapdoor Springfield and several models of Sharpes are available as reproductions.
The Ruger #1 and #3 rifles are "in the style of" some of the old single shots. No reason
not to use one, repro or original------It will probably make you a better hunter knowing
you only have one fast shot.
The only rifle I used for 12 years, and took a pile of game with it, is my Shiloh Sharps Montana Roughrider in 45-90. Never had to shoot anything twice. That rifle has never seen anything but real black powder and cast bullets of 25-1, lead/tin. Go for it, you won't regret it.
