What do you do with old/bad/unusable bullets? I have a box of bad .22s that I'm looking to get rid of, and it's quite possible that some of them would still fire. Do I just take them out back and bury them? Any suggestions?
Does a bullet puller work with rimfire cartridges? In just a quick look, I saw a couple that said not to use them with rimfires. I really don't know; I've never done any reloading, and I don't have any friends that reload either (except all you guys).
Grab the case with one set of pliers and the the bullet with another set of pliers and pull the 22 cartridges apart.
Drop the cases into a cup of oil and let them sit for a couple of days submerged in oil. Dump the powder in your garden or on your lawn (its actually like a fertilizer, I've been told) or dump it down the toilet.
If you have a huge bunch to disassemble (not just a box or two) then save the lead bullets and take it to a recycler. Lead is becoming scarce (it is said to be going to China and causing lead shortages here). Once the rimfire primer is nuetralized by the oil I suppose you could recycle the case too. Brass cartridge cases are worth more than raw brass (so it said on a TV show I watched recently) because of the alloys in them (copper, mostly).

You're on the right path. NEVER use an inertia type bullet puller (the hammer style) to disassemble rimfire ammo. The hammer blow might be enough crush the brass rim enough to discharge it.
Use the two plier technique that LDBennet posted to tear em down.
If you don't feel comfortable doing that, dump the whole cartridges in a can of penetrating oil and let em soak for a week or so to kill the primer and powder. I know kroil works for this method...did a few rimfires for a cartridge board that way.
Thanks guys. This is certainly enough information for me to get rid of what I have now.
