Do match bullets expand?

My .243 loves the Sierra 70 grain hollow point boattail match bullet. However the hollow point is much smaller than the 75 grain sierra. The 75 grain hollowpoint doesn't shoot quite as well, so I'd rather use the match bullets, especially when I have to reach out there to nail one of those beedy eyed woodchucks :p

I've heard that match bullets expand inconsistently... Is this true?

    Thanks,

I'm not really an expert on this, so I'll quote bits and pieces of the Lyman Reloading Handbook:

Now and then, (the game hunter) may get lucky, but the use of target bullets for game shooting invariably lead to disaster.

This was taken from The Lyman Book, 46th Edition, pg. 62-63.

I do hear good things about the VMax from hornaday.

Hollow point match bullets are meant to deform, not expand. They are NOT a hunting bullet. A hollow point bullet is areodynamically preferred over a solid nose as it cuts the air better. It is not expected to expand, but deform only!
