    THE FORUM MASCOTT...
I used to live in a medium sized town in North Dakota. One summer between the first and second grade my dad got a promotion and we moved to Omaha Nebraska....
I may have only been...Well...i don't know how old i was, a second grader anyway,... but i knew this girl down the block....i was sweet on her....and she at least liked me....
When we were packed up and ready to go, she came over and said goodbye...and just like in the movies i looked out the back window at her waving goodbye as we were driving away....

To this day..that still bothers me..

The life i had growing up in Omaha and the kids that i met in gradeschool thru Highschool were good kids....I had a good place and friends that were i guess destined to be....a place where i belonged....kids i remember, and who remember me...
I would not want to trade those memories for anything....
But sometimes i wonder...I wonder what would have been....

The other day I was looking at my email which had the usual spam...the classmates one which is pretty persistant..and i got the idea with my 20th reunion coming up..to look at Whapetons graduating class of 84...just to see who was? You know..just to read the names...to speak them out loud. I thought..I never really knew these people..but if i had...this is what their names would have been...
I read the list about half way down i ran into a name that i thought i recognized....
I asked my folks about the name...they sat there blank for a second and my mom said something about a girl down the street that i used to ride to school with......
Now i don't know if that was her....but the idea that i could look at a list and remember someone kinda bogels the mind....

Sometimes i think about what would have been had we stayed there.....

The woman i fell in love with and had a daughter with turned out to be a Dud....She cheated and did every kind of evil you could ever imagine...
The devorce and 2 custody battles that raged made WW2 look like a walk in the park....
And thanks to a complacent Judge...I have'nt seen my daughter in years...
The last time i did see her she was starting to sound like a puppet echoing her mothers venom....

And when i think about things like this....my mind wanders back to the idea of what would my life have been like if...........
    I really wonder......
Would it have been better....or would it have been worse...

Are things destined to be the way they are....or could they have been different?

Is my life Gods plan for me, or did he have a plan B, C, or even a plan D?

It really makes me think sometimes.....

I hitch-hiked across the USA from the East in '83.

One afternoon in Gardiner, MT, an old truck pulled up and two gals got out. One was petite, cute, and plain in her own way. And as shy as me.

I had dranken a pint of beer, and figured I'd turn her off with the beer breath in the middle of the day, but I bet if I had gone up and talked to her, I'd be working on her dad's ranch the next day, and we'd be married in under a year...

And I'd be ranching a few thousand acres right now with a house full of noisy kids.

Uh oh, GN... you're letting your serious side show. ;) :p

Seriously, though... I think we all wonder what would have happened if we had done one little thing differently in our lives.

I came to TFF looking for advice on a particular gun. I liked the place, I hung around, and next thing you know, I'm marrying a man I met here. All because I happened to visit this gun board instead of one the many others that are out there.

Mike, your life is not laid out for you by God. You have a free will to make your own decisions, right or wrong. That is what God gave you.

Well Mike, join the club. Sorry to hear of your childs involvement by your ex - nothing good will come of it. My first got into dope and became a coke freak.

I learned as Tuck wrote. God has a plan for us, but He does not control us like puppets on strings. We have free will to make choices - good and bad. It is said our lives are like tapestries - we get to see the back side with the thread all tangled up, while God sees the beautiful side and shares it's beauty with us when we reach our final destination.

When all else fails, re-read the instruction manual.

As far as looking up stuff on the net, have you ever "Googled" yourself to see what comes up? Try doing internet searches of your name and nickname (like Robert Smith, Bob Smith, Bobby Smith...) using different search engines. You might be suprised as to what comes up.

God be with you as your heart mends.

Yeah,... I think alot of people have similar thoughts and feelings about the "What If's". I know I do!

Me, I'm originally A Motown boy. yep, good ol' michigan.
Well, one day my mom was like...hey, we're goin' on vacation!!!
we're going to see mickey mouse!!!(Disney World) Of course I was excited, cause that's a big deal to a young boy from detroit.
ya know, cause we didn't have a "disney world". We went to Cedar Point(ohio) in the summers sometimes. Anyway, We never came back!! I left my friends, girlfriend, school and all my activities.
..and I'm still here in crappie florida 15+ yrs later! And I'm STILL a "Damn Yankee" to these people down here!? I miss the fall, the snow, the beautiful country sides in northern michigan and the great fun loving easygoing people of the midwest.
florida has weird seasons too! you got rainy season, hurricane season, lightning season, and burn your a$$ off season!! It sucks! I think I'm gonna go back home!
I could go on and on but to make it short, I think often about WHAT IF!

i found out long time ago ,don't question your fate ,and live your life with no regrets

it reminds me of an 80's hit by talking heads

    -----------------------
    Once in a Lifetime
    -----------------------

And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
And you may find yourself in another part of the world
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful
    wife
And you may ask yourself-Well...How did I get here?

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.

    And you may ask yourself
    How do I work this?
    And you may ask yourself
    Where is that large automobile?
    And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful house!
    And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful wife!
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down

Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...

    Water dissolving...and water removing
There is water at the bottom of the ocean
Carry the water at the bottom of the ocean
Remove the water at the bottom of the ocean!

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/in the silent water
Under the rocks and stones/there is water underground.

Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.

    And you may ask yourself
    What is that beautiful house?
    And you may ask yourself
    Where does that highway go?
    And you may ask yourself
    Am I right?...Am I wrong?
    And you may tell yourself
    MY GOD!...WHAT HAVE I DONE?

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down

You know thats the thing about moving to another part of the country...is that the attitudes...personalities..and i guess to a degree the culture is not quite the same.....
Its even worse moving to the south.....
Moving from the north to the south is not like moving from Illinois to south dakota.....
These people are different....attitudes and opinions are different, the culture is different....goals are different....and they seem to be...Klanish...
    I don't mean "kkk"ish...they just associate different.
Lots of other little differences as well.....

Works both ways mate (thank God). A couple of years back I met a girl that I was desperately in love with thirty years ago.
Now I don't want to malign the lady, so let it be sufficiant to say that I walked away thinkin "thank the sweet lord I didn't go there".:D :D :D

    You think that's rough?

I'm from Texas, a member of the Confederacy and they STILL treat me like a Yankee after living here over 20 years!

'Course, Atlanta isn't near as Southern as it used to be, these days....
