Just for grins, have decided to convert a slew of 7.62 x 51 NATO Berdan-primed cases I have over to accept boxer primers. Bought the rounds a long time ago and can't remember what country they came from. By "slew," I mean a bunch.
During the process, I found that some of the cases wouldn't slip into the Lee shell holder that came with their Ultimate (.308) Die Set; some would, some wouldn't. Checked a bunch of unfired rounds and found the same thing. FWIW – they all worked fine in my AR10 and M1A.
Just to make sure there wasn't something wrong with the shell holder, I picked up some new un-primed .308 brass (Winchester) to check. They all fit fine. After taking some measurements, I found that the case rims on the stuff that wouldn't fit was slightly larger in diameter.... just enough to keep the cases from slipping in the holder. I dressed those down slightly with the cases chucked up in my lathe and used a file to dress them up to where they'd fit in the holder.
That problem solved, but do have a question: Is it necessary to run brand new brass through the resizing process using the die set prior to reloading? Figured I'd reload them too while I was in the process of dropping powder.
