I just came across a Thomas Bland & Sons 12 Gauge full choke barreled shotgun It is missing a hammer on the right hand barrel. Its number is 83090. Is it worth saving
Thomas Bland & Sons of Birmingham and London, England was founded in 1840.
They made average quality guns and the firm was still in business in 1970s.
You don't say if its a breechloader or muzzleloader, but either way an exactly matching hammer is likely impossible to find, and its value is probably as a wallhanger (with right side to wall).
Sorry about the lack of info. Its a Breech Loader. The numbers are 83090, on the barrels, stock and Fore Piece. It reads London Extra Fine Damascus ? Both barrels are choked. 12 gauge. Very nice engraving. I will get Pics up soon. Thanks
More and better pictures will be needed if opinions of any value are to be offered. Complete gun, both sides, close ups of: butt stock-both sides, forearm, receiver-both sides, top and bottom, proof marks, barrels-both sides, top and bottom. Precious little can be determined from the one picture. This is similar to asking if a 1971 Hemi 'Cuda is worth saving with a picture of just the grille.
LOL! It took me a while to get em but here ya are. Thanks for your help. Even as a wall hanger it shows the great craftsmanship that it took to make this gun. I Love It!
After some further research you guys are right, it's a wall hanger at best a parts gun. I have learned alot about antique guns though. So it was worth the education. These forums are awesome and Thanks again!
