Yesterday I sent both an email and snail mail letter to my state senators and congressman on the subject of the UN small arms treaty. I just received a response from Senator Sherrod Brown with no salutation and no signature. It reads as follows:

Thank you for sending me your comments. Listening to the views of the people I represent in the U.S. Senate is a critical part of my job. I do my best to provide every Ohioan with a prompt response. If you have an urgent matter, please feel free to call any of my offices in Ohio or Washington, DC.

If you have not done so already, please visit my Senate website (http://brown.senate.gov) for comprehensive information about my work in the Senate, as well as constituent services that my office provides and how to get connected with federal programs.

Or, you may be interested in receiving my e-Newsletters to stay connected with what's happening in Congress of importance to Ohio. Sign up for regular updates on the work I am doing in the Senate, and please select a few issues to get newsletter updates on specific topics as subjects arise.

Of course I didn't expect him to embrace my ideas, but the nitwit didn't even acknowledge the subject of my email. Some representatrion. I hope every Ohian on TFF works to get this bum thrown out of office. His opponent, Josh Mandel, seems to be a very good man.

Sh**head Brown, as I like to refer him as. Just another left-wing socialist prig, that is in full lock-step with the socialist branch of the Democrat Party. He voted for the "Health Care Bill" and every other socialistic endevor the "Dear Leader" has been for. I will vote for Josh Mandel, or even the stuuf I scrape off my boots before Sh**head Brown.

They don't read there email. That was a simple form email you received. I sent an an email to the white house about gun control. I requested a reply. I received a reply but you could tell it was a form letter with a few words changed to look like a real response.

They just want your vote. They could care if you live or die after that. I think they are all like that.

Not all. I once wrote John Boehner about Obama's eligibility to serve and did get a more direct reponse. He basically told me he had too much on his plate to be concerned with such a trivial matter (my words, not his). I used to like that guy. Not anymore. I'm begining to think there are about 4 people in all of congress that are worthy to draw air.

    Boy, it looks like arrogance is spelled S H E R R O D B R O W N. Honest disagreement is one thing - response with a "how great I am" e-mail is absurd.

But then Ohio re-elected Metzenbaum, the old time Communist, over and over again, so who can say what will happen.

You will get a better response from your district representative... that is my experience. I always write my senators and district representative, all democrats, so you can bet I have a lot to say to them lol. *sigh* I'm sure I'm on a list somewhere

I also left a message at the white house for Commiebama.. I was ranting about the reason this country is going down the tubes is because the blatant disregard for the constitution.

And I have had contact with the Secret Service because I was having a convo with a disabled kid in my world religions class and he said something about harming obama.. lol. I stood up for the kid though, but I truthfully did not remember exactly what he said so I could not bear false witness against my neighbor.

    Dear occupant;
Your letter is very important to us. We will consider it and give you a response shortly...
If your matter is urgent please feel free to call my offices in Ohio or Washington DC, where if you are on my "conservative list" you can sit and listen to horrible music while on hold for the forseeable future.

My experience with this has been the complete opposite. We built our house in the country 13 years ago and decided to go with a sattelite system instead of the antenna route for television viewing. After a couple of years we decided to add some local viewing to the line up offered by the sattelite company.
A call to the sattelite company revealed the we would have to purchase Columbus, Ohio channels instead of Toledo, Ohio local viewing, because of our particular zip code. Even though I live 30-40 miles closer to Toledo than Columbus.
Further calls revealed that our beloved Congress had sold everyones viewing rights to a marketing companythat set up demographic zones, by zip codes. A call to my Representative/Congressman, I was told that he was much to busy to be bothered by such a trivial situation. The fact that we could receive no news or even a weather report made no difference. A question about what right did you (the Congress) have to sell my viewing rights fell upon deaf ears as well.
A few e-mails to his office later to thank him for being such a good conservative watch dog, and for his efforts in persuing the conservative fights in the House, got me several return responses and frequent up dates on what was going on in the House.
Another e-mail to his office to complain about the Cornhusker Kick-Back, the Louisiana Purchase, and all of the other illegal activity going on in our government about the "Health Care" bill, in closing my letters I said that I don't wan't accountability from my government, I demand it. To this I recieved nothing. Eleven weeks later I sent the same letter, and to this also nothing. Eight weeks later I sent the same letter, this time with a complaint about Elana Kegan's nomination to the Supreme Court and from this I received a very terse, "this is an issue for the Senate".
To this date, I've never heard another word from these people, that Congressmans name is Jim Jordan from Ohio. It doesn't sem to matter what party they belong to, once elected the people that they "represent" don't matter anymore. The only concern is to be re-elected, and to hell with the people that put them there.

Just an update. I just received this email from Sen Sherrod Brown's office. Apparently what I posted previously was an acknowledgement that my email had been received. I must say that despite whatever political positions he holds, the man has always answered emails. That is better than a few of the republican legislators I've sent email to.

So now who do we believe, a U.S. senator or the NRA, GOA, SAF, NAGR, and a number of gun rights bloggers? Also, for any of you constutional scholars out there, I'd like to call your attention to one partical statement in the senators email:

"The Supreme Court has also ruled that no treaty may supersede the powers set forth by our Constitution or Bill of Rights."

I know we'd like to think that's the way it is, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I recall a sc ruling on a treaty not that long ago which stated that a treaty did in fact trump the constitution and our laws in the case of any conflict between the two. The impression I got was that while no representative of the people should agree to such a treaty, if they did, it would be binding on U.S. citizens regardless of what the constitution said. Can anyone enlighten me?

Thank you for getting in touch with me about the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).

Since 2006, members of the United Nations have been negotiating a treaty to combat the illicit international trade of arms. The treaty would establish global standards for the import, export, and transfer of conventional weapons — ranging from tanks, fighter jets, small arms, and ammunition — to prevent them from fueling conflicts or falling into the hands of terrorists, warlords, and international crime syndicates.

I have heard from many Ohioans who are concerned that an ATT could infringe upon their Second Amendment rights. The ATT is not intended to devise a global gun ban or deny law-abiding U.S. citizens their right to bear arms. The United States has made it clear throughout negotiations that any potential ATT must respect the sovereign rights of nations to regulate gun sales and ownership within their own borders. The Supreme Court has also ruled that no treaty may supersede the powers set forth by our Constitution or Bill of Rights.

I fully support the Second Amendment right to bear arms and will continue to protect this fundamental right. Should the ATT come before the Senate for ratification, I will be sure to keep your views in mind, and I will not support any treaty that undermines the Second Amendment.

Thank you again for contacting me.

    Sincerely,

    Sherrod Brown
    United States Senator
